McMichael Middle School students received high honors at the Region VII Model United Nations Seminar, echoing the success from Nacogdoches High School’s Model UN team.

Stephen F. Austin State University hosted the annual seminar. 47 delegates represented McMichael at with 11 delegates earning medallions, and delegations earning 6 third place awards, 5-second place awards and 5 first place awards. Students in the Portugal Delegation were named Best Novice Delegation.

The highest honor for a delegation, the “Best Overall Delegation”, was awarded to McMichael’s Russia Delegation. Members of this delegation included Hunter Hagan, Nicole Bowman, Douglas Cox, Andrew Coe, Jakob Cuevas, Kenny Om and Jimmy Soto.

The Region VII website states that by participating in Model UN, students research “the social, political, and economic factors and issues that determine the identity of a sovereign state.” Model UN is a program offered by the Nacogdoches ISD Academic Services Department.
