McMichael Middle School Students Placed in UIL District Meet

On February 27, 2016, McMichael Middle School students participated in the District 16-5A UIL Academic Meet, hosted at McMichael Middle School.

Six schools participated, which included, Jacksonville, Lindale, Lufkin, Mike Moses, and Whitehouse. UIL offers the following 18 contests for middle school students: art, calculator, chess, editorial writing, ready writing, dictionary skills, impromptu speaking, listening, maps, graphs & charts, mathematics, modern oratory, music memory, number sense, prose and poetry speaking, science, social studies, and spelling.

The contests, which exist to complement the academic curriculum, are designed to motivate students as they acquire higher levels of knowledge and provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of specific skills.

McMichael Middle School students won a total of 38 individual medals (1st - 6th place) and 36 team medals (team placing 1 st, 2nd, or 3rd) for a total of 74 medals. Of the total medals McMichael received the following breakdown of medals:

1st Place: 18

2nd Place: 17

3rd Place: 19

4th Place: 6

5th Place: 6

6th Place : 6

McMichael placed 4th overall and 8th grade students placed 3rd with overall points.
